Geneva, 16 June 2025<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Zagros Human Rights Center expresses its deep concern over the military conflict between Iran and Israel, now entering its fourth day. This escalation poses a serious threat to regional peace and stability and risks triggering a large-scale humanitarian crisis.<\/p>\n

Strikes have already hit several urban areas, causing civilian casualties and the destruction of essential infrastructure. We firmly condemn all attacks targeting civilian populations, in clear violation of international humanitarian law.<\/p>\n

Beyond the current violence, this crisis is part of a broader context marked by the continued development of Iran\u2019s nuclear program, which lacks transparency and effective international oversight. Growing concerns over a possible nuclear militarization add an extremely dangerous dimension to this conflict.<\/p>\n

We therefore call on the international community to recognize the Islamic Republic of Iran as a government that actively contributes to regional destabilization and represents a serious threat to international security. Through both direct involvement and support for affiliated armed groups, Iran fuels tensions, obstructs diplomatic efforts, and undermines fundamental rights throughout the region.<\/p>\n

The Zagros Center calls for an immediate ceasefire, the resumption of diplomatic negotiations, and the re-establishment of an effective international monitoring mechanism over Iran\u2019s nuclear activities.<\/p>\n

We also warn of the heightened risks faced by minorities\u2014particularly Kurds, Arabs, and Baluchis in Iran\u2014who may be subjected to even harsher repression under the pretext of \u201cnational security.\u201d Human rights defenders, independent journalists, and engaged citizens must also be protected from arbitrary measures.<\/p>\n

Peace is not merely the absence of war: it must be built on justice, accountability, and the respect for the fundamental rights of all.<\/p>\n
