Urgent joint appeal to the international community: Stop Iranian regime\u2019s brutal oppression of peaceful protesters<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n
We, the undersigned representatives of World Civil society, human rights activists, and intellectuals, from across the world, strongly urge all governments, as well as regional and international organizations, to clearly and unequivocally denounce the ongoing violent crackdown against the public protests and demands for democratic reform and government accountability that have been occurring across Iran.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The Iranian government has responded to protests with excessive force. This has included widespread use of beatings, arbitrary detentions and the use of rubber bullets and allegedly live ammunition against unarmed civilians, resulting in over a deaths.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
With the strong risk that repression, violence and instability in Iran could escalate to unprecedented levels in the coming days, it is critical that individual governments from all regions of the world urgently exert strong and concerted pressure on the Iranian Regime to curb human rights abuses against Kurdish activists.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
We call on the United Nations, its Member States and regional bodies to condemn the serious and widespread human rights violations carried out by the Iranian authorities against Kurdish civilians throughout the country. The international community must remind the Iranian government of its international human rights obligations, urge it to fully respect the rights to peaceful assembly, freedom of movement and freedom of expression, and support the demands of the Kurdish peoples in Iran.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The death of Jina (Mahsa) Amini, a young Kurdish girl who was murdered under the custody of the Iranian morality police in Tehran, sparked an unprecedented movement of public protest and uprising across Iran. The movement first started in her hometown in Kurdistan and spread all over Iran. The progressive \u2018Woman-Life-Freedom\u2019 movement not only objects to the compulsory Islamic hijab and other restrictions on Iranian women, but also asks for the restoration of basic human rights for all Iranians.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The Islamic Republic of Iran has exercised an unbridled and inhumane violence against the protesters across the country, especially in the regions inhabited by ethnic communities such as Kurds, and Baluchs. According to the Iran Human Rights Group, at least 244 people including 34 children have been killed by the security forces of the regime. The regime has used warzone weapons such as helicopters to crush protesters in the city of Zahedan in Baluchistan province last week. Currently, a brutal campaign of intimidation against the local population is undertaken in the city of Sanandaj in Kurdistan province involving the perpetration of acts that amount to crimes against humanity. Having the city under siege, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) opens fire directly at protesters in the streets and civilians in their homes. Dozens of deaths are reported, and numerous civilians including hundreds of children have been kidnapped. Hospitals are banned from taking injured protesters.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
As the peaceful demonstrations continue all over Iran, the unbridled violence by regime forces is increasing daily in the Kurdish cities of Iran. By resorting to a larger scale of oppression in Kurdish regions, the regime is trying to divert attention from demonstrations in major cities of Iran. In an act of revenge and instigation to militarize the progressive movement, the Iranian military is bombarding the bases of the Iranian Kurdish political parties exiled in Iraqi Kurdistan. During a series of missile and drone strikes on September 28th, dozens of Iranian Kurdish civilians, including women and children were killed and injured. This is a clear act of war crime and disrespect for international laws. The regime is amassing more forces in the Kurdish regions, especially on the borders, indicating that the regime is preparing for a potential full-scale war in the region.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Halting the excessive use of violence by the regime requires the intervention of the international community. We, the signatories of the present urgent appeal, draw the attention of the international community to the seriousness of the situation. Effective and immediate international measures are needed to protect civilians. These measures may include:<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u25cf Convening an extraordinary meeting of the United Nations Security Council to discuss measures towards protecting Iranian civilians against the regime\u2019s brutal suppression of protestors all over the country.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u25cf Dispatching an independent committee under the auspices of the UN Human Rights Council to investigate the excessive use of violence and torture in the Iranian Kurdish and Baluchi regions.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u25cf Using all possible means to force the Iranian regime to stop its campaign of systematic<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
oppression and violence, and allow the international humanitarian agencies access to the Kurdish and Baluchi regions.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u25cf Reducing the level of diplomatic relations with the Islamic Republic and making the resumption of negotiations on the nuclear deal conditioned on immediate ending the repression of demonstrators and the release of the prisoners related to these protests as well as all political prisoners.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\u25cf Using any economic pressure to limit the margin of action of Iranian officials directly involved in the repression of demonstrators and in the regime\u2019s military maneuvers against Kurdish resistance based in Iraqi Kurdistan.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
