The Centre Zagros pour les Droits de l’Homme (Zagros Human Rights Center) welcomes the courageous decision of the Swiss National Council to recognize the Yazidi genocide committed by the Islamic State in 2014. This recognition marks an essential step towards justice for the victims and sends a powerful message against the impunity of crimes against humanity.
We express our deep gratitude to the Swiss Parliament and the Swiss Socialist Party for their proposal and unwavering support for this cause. Their commitment demonstrates a firm determination to uphold the principles of international law and to support persecuted minorities.
The Yazidi genocide caused unimaginable suffering: thousands were killed, enslaved, and subjected to sexual violence and other atrocities. Switzerland’s recognition of these crimes is a crucial step to ensure that “never again” is not just a slogan but a true promise.
We encourage Switzerland to continue its efforts to achieve international recognition of this genocide and call on the international community to follow this example. Justice for the Yazidis is a collective responsibility, and every act of recognition strengthens the fight against impunity and the prevention of future genocides.
