Commemoration of the Assassination of Jina-Mahsa Amini and Call for Solidarity with the Iranian People

The Zagros Human Rights  Center today joins the Iranian people and the international community to commemorate the first anniversary of the assassination of Jina-Mahsa Amini, a young Kurdish victim of police oppression in Iran. On September 16, 2022, his life was tragically cut short by the Iranian government’s moral police forces in Tehran. His death sparked global outrage and highlighted the brutal realities faced by many seeking justice and freedom in Iran.

We are firmly committed to continuing to promote human rights in honor of Jina-Mahsa Amini and all victims of oppression in Iran. We support the general call made by various Iranian civil society and political organizations, which express the need for meaningful change for a more equitable and just Iran.

We also call on the international community to remain attentive to human rights violations in Iran. The calls for a general strike demonstrate the determination of the Iranian people to demand positive change. However, it is crucial to highlight the challenges related to violence during previous protests, which resulted in numerous deaths, injuries and arrests among protesters. This situation calls for immediate action to end impunity and ensure respect for human rights in Iran.

The Zagros Human Rights Center reaffirms its commitment to the defense of human rights and its support for the Iranian people. On this day of remembrance, let us honor the memory of Jina-Mahsa Amini by continuing to work for a more equitable and just Iran and world.
